A three-way stop in North Fulton is now a roundabout as part of a $3.6 million traffic renovation project.

Officials with the city of Milton said this week that the intersection at Mayfield Road and Charlotte Drive became a roundabout on Tuesday.

Construction continues, so drivers should expect delays are crews finish up.

Milton planning documents show the former intersection is near the downtown Milton Library and on the border of Alpharetta.

The project is part of the TSPLOST, or Transportation Special Purpose Local-Option Sales Tax, approved by voters in 2016. It is expected to bring in $37 million.

“We recognize transportation projects can be challenging, and we appreciate your patience as we work to complete this project designed to help alleviate congestion at the former intersection,” the city said.

Roundabouts became all the rage in traffic calming in Georgia a few years ago. In the decade after 2005, more than 145 roundabouts were built throughout the state.
