Five candidates including two City Council members were seeking to succeed longtime Roswell Mayor Jere Wood in the Nov. 7 municipal election as the period for qualifying ended Aug. 25. Wood is stepping down after serving five terms.

Donald J. Horton is vacating his Post 3 Council seat to run for mayor. Post 4 Councilwoman Lori Henry is also running for mayor but she won’t have to give up her council seat. Her term expires this year.

They are joined in the mayor’s race by Michael Litten, who successfully sued to have Wood removed as mayor under Roswell’s term limits ordinance (Wood remains mayor while he appeals the judge’s ruling) and Sandra Sidhom and Lee Jenkins.

Qualifying candidates for council Post 4 are Marie Willsey, Andrew Leonardi and Meg M. McClanahan; for Post 5, Keith Goeke and Matthew C. Tyser; and for Post 6, Matt Judy, Karen Parrish and Gus Hadorn. Post 5 incumbent Jerry Orlans and Post 6 incumbent Nancy Diamond do not appear on the final candidates’ list released by the city.

The council on Aug. 28 called a special election Nov. 7 to fill Horton’s unexpired term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2019. Qualifying dates are Sept. 6 through Sept. 8 at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St. The qualifying fee is $540.
