Personal transportation vehicles more commonly called golf carts will be permitted on Roswell city streets and some multi-use paths after July 1. The carts must maintain a speed limit of 25 miles-per-hour or less.

The Roswell City Council firmed up the date Monday night, while deciding that golf cart owners will be required to pay a $15 dollar registration fee to the city that’s good for five years. Operators must be at least 16, licensed drivers and have proof of insurance. The carts will also have to meet a list of state standards.

The original target date for the change was March 1, but city officials moved it back to allow for settling questions such as a procedure for permitting the carts to cross major thoroughfares and state roads, and to allow for adequate time to educate the public on the changes.
