With emergency lights flashing and sirens blaring, Roswell residents got a bit of a wakeup call Tuesday morning.
Nothing dangerous happening. Just a few residents sending off first responders en route to the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
The Roswell Police Department shared footage of the send-off on its Facebook page Tuesday morning. Footage shows several residents clutching American flags and waving as the first responders' charter bus passes through fire trucks at the intersection of Woodstock Road and Canton Street.
An American flag draped from the top of the fire truck ladders.
The first responders were also treated to unique farewell by local fire trucks, which doused the charter plane with water as it began to lift off from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Missed the morning send-off? A welcome back celebration starts at 10:25 p.m. at the Roswell Area Park on Woodstock.
Roswell Rotary Club's Patriot Flight program is responsible for the day trip. The program was started earlier this year under rotary club president Jeff McCoy and state Sen. John Albers.
It is modeled after the club's Honor Air program, which flies local veterans free of charge to Washington, D.C. to visit select national war memorials. Trips are generally funded through donations.
