The Roswell City Council this week sent plans for an alcohol “carry” area to be known as the Park Square District back to the drawing board.

The district would have encompassed areas west of Ga. 9 and north of Ga. 120, including the park on the town square and parts of Bulloch and Mimosa avenues. Councilman Michael Palermo had backed a plan to expand the district to include the park-like square as well as several watering holes, saying residents living near there wanted it to be more of a weekend destination.

The district would be similar to another centering on nearby Canton Street which allows restaurant patrons to order adult beverages to go, and to walk about consuming them within the boundaries.

Palermo’s motion came down to a 3-all tie which Mayor Jere Wood broke with a vote to deny. Wood called for more time to study the plan since it involved a city park, where officials said alcohol is customarily not allowed. He noted that the city Recreation Commission would take it up April 28.
