Roswell police are using a small Chihuahua as a big example of why you should not leave dogs inside hot cars.

According to a Facebook post by the Roswell Police Department, the dog that weighs less than two pounds was found barking inside a hot vehicle Sunday.

A good Samaritan heard the dog in distress and called police, who rescued the dog and gave it water until the owner returned.

They said the owner told police their family had just gone to eat lunch, but police say the dog was dehydrated and losing strength.

The dog’s owner was charged with cruelty to animals.

This is the third dog Roswell police have rescued in the past few weeks. Police took video of one distressed lab in the back seat of a car Tuesday and posted it on Facebook.
