The Roswell City Council has approved a mutual aid and assistance agreement with Atlanta, pledging cooperation by their respective police departments in case of an emergency or other big event.
Either city can request law enforcement assistance in response to “civil disturbances, large protest demonstrations, aircraft disasters, fires, natural or manmade disasters, sporting events, concerts, escape from detention facilities,” and incidents requiring specialized units or equipment, like SWAT teams and helicopters, the pact says.
The cities also can assist each other investigating crimes, handling motor vehicle accidents, and providing police patrol backups. The agreement details how assistance would be requested, the creation of an Incident Command system, and other points of cooperation.
Each city will be responsible for its own personnel’s pay, equipment and injuries. The agreement initially runs through June 30, 2019, and automatically renews for one-year periods thereafter.
