The Roswell City Council has approved the $3.4 million purchase of 24.8 acres of open land on Chaffin Road for future use as a park.

The Council voted 6-0 Monday night to buy the land, in the northern part of the city, from D&B Development Inc., Alpharetta. The deal is expected to close by the end of the month.

The property is a rectangular tract surrounded by homes on three sides at Chaffin near Coleman Drive. Roswell High School is to the west, and Sweet Apple Elementary School is to the northeast.

Discussion at the Council meeting indicated it might be appropriate for ball fields.
