Roswell officials have approved a $90,000 design contract for a “mini roundabout” at North Coleman and Lake Crest roads.
The City Council voted to award the contract to the engineering firm of Gresham Smith. In a report to the council, staff said they had identified the ‘T” intersection of Lake Crest with North Coleman as “a highly suitable location” for the new type of traffic device.
“Installation of a mini roundabout here would be effective in mitigating some of the traffic issues cited by area residents, and would provide an opportunity to develop a golf cart/personal transportation vehicle (PTV) crossing to Canton Street,” staff said.
The project also could replace Land of Lakes subdivision monument signs that were substantially damaged in a car crash last July. Per Roswell codes, the signs cannot be replaced as originally built because they were non-breakaway objects within the public right-of-way.
Staff is open to the possibility of new signage, provided they are a “breakaway” design made of soft materials that look like brick, stone or stucco.
