The Roswell Division of Emergency Communications is only the 17th emergency dispatcher center in the world and the second in Georgia to be recognized as an Accredited Center of Excellence by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch.
The recognition for Roswell’s 911 center is for its use of the Police Priority Dispatch System, officials said. The designation follows an on-site visit by IAED and documentation that the center met or exceeded 20 points of accreditation.
The honor inspires agencies to provide “superior, industry best practices in public safety and to employ efficient use of resources when handling all emergency call situations,” according to an announcement of the award.
“I already knew this team of 911 professionals were amazing, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, but to have an official declaration of that fact for the rest of the world to see makes me extremely proud, grateful and humbled,” said Melissa Alterio, 911 director with the Roswell Police Department.
