A Fulton County health inspector found live roaches in the facility of a Philly & Wings Plus in southwest Atlanta. The routine inspection also turned up slime, mold and food debris in the ice machine.
Philly & Wings Plus, 1722 Campbellton Road, Atlanta, scored a 41/U, the second failing routine inspection for the restaurant.
The inspector said management needed retraining in food safety because there was a lack of awareness in key areas of risk control.
For example, points were taken off because employees were not washing their hands properly. The inspector said there were no paper towels or soap at the hand sinks.
A bucket of celery in the walk-in cooler was uncovered and subject to contamination. A bottle of cleaner was stored on top of the flour bin and next to a bag of flour.
A walk-in cooler was leaking stagnant waste water on the floor.
Among other code violations, raw chicken was stored above fruit drinks in a walk-in cooler. Prepared foods in the freezer were not date-marked for disposal. A pot of cooked rice was stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler.
Philly & Wings Plus will be re-inspected. [Editor's Note: Philly & Wings Plus passed the follow-up inspection with 76/C.]
