Restaurant inspection: Food unprotected from contamination
Some food items at a China Wok in Marietta were subject to contamination and discarded during a recent routine health inspection.
The Cobb County health inspector said containers of sauces and egg rolls were all uncovered in a prep cooler, and a container of rice had been placed directly on top of some egg rolls. The egg rolls were thrown away.
In addition, several food items in the cooler were at unsafe temperatures. Chicken, beef and shrimp were all discarded. Eggs stored in another cooler were also discarded because of elevated temperatures.
In a separate violation, the inspector observed a utensil with a piece of raw chicken on it stored inside a container of raw beef. The beef was thrown away.
China Wok, 2555 Delk Road, failed the inspection with a 60/U. The restaurant had previous scores of 86/B and 96/A.
Points were also taken off because the water in the employee hand-sink was dirty when coming out of the faucet. And the water wasn’t draining from the sink, either, the inspector said.
In other code violations, prepared foods in a cooler were not labeled with discard dates. One large bin of cooked chicken wings and two bins of cooked chicken pieces had been prepared two days earlier but did not have date labels, according to the report.
The inspector found several unlabeled containers of nuts and seasonings on a shelf, and unlabeled bags of food in a freezer. Employees’ personal food was being stored along with products for customers. These items need to be separated, the inspector said.
Also, the area around the grill was dirty with grease and flour and needed cleaning, according to the inspection report.
China Wok will be re-inspected. [China Wok passed the follow-up inspection with an 89/B.]
