Four people were in custody Thursday after a double shooting left one teen dead and another critically injured in DeKalb County.
Police believe a dispute between two groups of people walking near Decatur led to gunfire Wednesday afternoon on McAfee Road, off Candler Road, police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told the AJC. Thirteen-year-old Jernard Wheeler died after being transported to the hospital and a 16-year-old boy, whose name was not released, remained hospitalized Thursday, police said.
Later Wednesday, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Willa Way before arresting a woman and her two sons. Wednesday night, Viola Goodman, 52, and her sons, Shontonious Hawkins, 25, and James Fanning, 20, were charged with murder and aggravated assault and are being held without bond, Parish said.
Police issued an arrest warrant Thursday for a 16-year-old boy, believed to be the gunman. That teen, whose name was not release, turned himself in Thursday afternoon, Channel 2 Action News reported.
