Report: Employees not washing hands leads to failed health inspection for Decatur café

A Decatur soul food café failed its health inspection last week after an inspector observed workers touching the floor then preparing food without washing their hands.

Flavor Café, located at 5631- A Covington Highway, failed its health inspection May 10 with a score of 69/U, according to a Georgia Department of Public Health report. The restaurant received a 96 on its April health inspection.

A health inspector noted that the restaurant’s BBQ chicken sat at room temperature rather than in a cooler prior to cooking. The eatery also lost points for a broken restroom door and shelving with scattered food debris.

When contacted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a woman who identified herself as the owner declined to comment.

According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, Flavor Café will celebrate its one-year anniversary at the end of the month. Yelp reviewers rate the café at just under 3 stars.

The restaurant will be re-inspected.
