It's been more than 15 years since the 24-year-old college student was jumped from behind as she opened the door to her condo in Dunwoody.

Her assailant proceeded to rape her, choke her and beat her for nearly six hours before leaving her bound with a phone cord ripped from a wall.

The woman, whose name was withheld by authorities this week, freed herself and called police. But until this week, she didn't know with certainty who attacked her.

Finally, with the help of DNA evidence, a 48-year-old was convicted of the crime. A Fulton County Superior Court jury convicted Raoul Lynch Thursday on charges of rape, assault, kidnapping, injury and burglary, according to the office of Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard.

Judge Christopher Brasher sentenced Lynch to two consecutive life sentences plus 60 years in prison for his role in the June 6, 1995 attack.

The case stymied police until 2001 when DNA from the crime scene connected Lynch to the attack, prosecutors said. It took another six years to find him. Georgia police caught up with him when he was arrested in 2007 in New York in connection with identity theft.

He was convicted and sent to prison, then extradited to Georgia on the rape charge.
