The Cobb County District Attorney's Office said Monday it will not pursue rape charges against a former Marietta High student accused of assaulting a 14-year-old girl during a high school basketball game.

The alleged rape occurred at Campbell High School in Smyrna on Feb. 16. Chandler Brookins, then 15, was accused of rape, aggravated sexual battery and false imprisonment and was originally charged as an adult, although his case had been recently transferred to juvenile court.

Brookins is the son of Marietta High Associate Principal Ron Brookins. His accuser told Smyrna police she was restrained in a bear hug position on the floor of the bathroom. With the weight of Brookins' body holding her down, the warrant claims, the Marietta High baseball player used one hand to commit the assault, the other to pin her left shoulder.

"The victim repeatedly told the accused no and to stop," the warrant, dated March 14, states. Brookins, through his attorney, denied the accusations.

Cobb District Attorney Pat Head was out of town Monday and unavailable for comment, but he told the Marietta Daily Journal that the case was dropped “because I can’t prove it.”
