A total 8.55 inches of rain fell in Decatur Dec. 22 through early Tuesday, causing a “lot of localized, short-term flooding,” according to Assistant City Manager David Junger.

But he added that no one was hurt in that duration.

The week featured many street floods, particularly on Christmas Eve, overflowing ditches and crawl space flooding, with the city also receiving complaints from areas near construction sites due to blowouts in silt fences.

“I don’t have all the information yet,” Junger said Tuesday. “We had one car damaged by high water. But considering how much rain we got over a week, I think we came out pretty good.”

Junger added the water main break within city limits on Superior Avenue near Willow Lane Monday night had nothing to do with rain. DeKalb County confirmed Tuesday that breach was caused by a construction crew which has been doing water and sewer work in the area since August.
