Showers and thunderstorms expected to move into metro Atlanta overnight will likely dampen Friday night football games, but rainfall amounts shouldn't be great enough to cause flooding.

"Major flood problems are not expected with this system," the National Weather Service said in a statement issued early Thursday. The heaviest downpours "should track mostly northwest of Georgia," forecasters said.

Still, some areas could get a good dousing, with metro rainfall totals ranging from a half-inch to more than 1 inch.

The forecast for metro Atlanta calls for cloudy skies overnight, with a 30 percent chance of showers after 2 a.m. and lows in the upper 50s.

The chance of rain is 100 percent on Friday, when highs will be in the low 70s.

The rain chance diminishes slightly to 90 percent Friday night, and temperatures should bottom out in the mid-50s.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy and cooler, with afternoon highs in the low 60s, followed by overnight lows in the mid-40s.

Mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s are forecast for Sunday.
