Saturday's soggy weather and a forecast for more of the same on Sunday prompted the state Department of Transportation to postpone a major repaving project that had been expected to jam weekend traffic on the top-end Perimeter.

The DOT had planned to shut down the two left lanes of I-285 eastbound from Paces Ferry Road to Ashford Dunwoody Road through 5 a.m. on Monday, but spokeswoman Jill Goldberg said the work has been cancelled for the entire weekend.

"Work will begin Monday night if weather permits," Goldberg told the AJC.

Other weekend roadwork planned for I-20 on the west side and for I-285 on the south side was also put on hold by the weather.

A large area of rain, heavy at times, moved into metro Atlanta from the southeast Saturday morning.

In Marietta, .91 inch of rain fell between 11 a.m. and noon at Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said the chance of rain is 60 percent on Saturday and 40 percent on Sunday.

That forecast could be bad news for Braves fans headed to Turner Field, where the Braves are scheduled to play the Houston Astros at 7:10 p.m. Saturday and at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday.
