It was raining across metro Atlanta early Tuesday for the ninth consecutive day, but forecasters were promising a few dry days later this week before the next soggy weather system moves in for the weekend.

Tuesday’s predawn rain was spotty, with some areas getting brief torrential downpours while only light rain was reported in other spots.

The National Weather Service Tuesday morning continued a flood warning for areas of Fulton and Forsyth counties along Big Creek, which at 8:45 a.m. was about a half-foot above flood stage. Minor flooding was reported on the Big Creek Greenway bike and jogging path near Rock Hill Park.

Rainfall totals for the morning through 5 a.m. ranged from just .01 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and .03 inch in Chamblee to .23 inch in Dallas and .28 inch in Alpharetta.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the back edge of the rain was approaching from the west just before 6 a.m. The chance of morning rain was 70 percent, but the rain should be out of the area by Tuesday afternoon, Minton said.

Temperatures Tuesday will be cool, only reaching the upper 40s, according to Minton.

Wednesday through Friday should be sunny and dry, with highs in the mid-50s Wednesday, upper 40s Thursday and low 50s Friday and lows in the low 30s.

The weekend forecast is for more rain Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s.
