A weekly downtown farmers market was given approval recently by the Powder Springs City Council.

Susan Smelser of The Book Worm Bookstore at 4451 Marietta St. will host the farmers market from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 28 with the temporary event permit. The market will use the city parking lot, fronting Marietta Street and Lewis Road.

The council’s resolution states the city “finds that this proposed event will not interfere with the public and commercial use of the parking lot and adjacent commercial properties.” However, Smelser must coordinate with the owner of The Suite “for event dates and times and execution of an indemnity agreement by each event participant.”
