The Powder Springs City Council is expected to decide on Oct. 19 whether to give pay raises to the city’s police sergeants and lieutenants.
City Manager Pam Conner “noted the inability to fill the position of sergeant for an inordinate period of time and finds that the recruitment of experienced and qualified sergeants stems, in part, from noncompetitive salaries contained within the existing pay plan,” according to the ordinance.
Conner recommends changing the pay range by an additional $5,500 for sergeant from $40,072 to $62,112 to a range of $45,572 to $67,612 and by an extra $8,000 for lieutenant from $44,179 to $68,477 to a range of $52,179 to $76,477.
If approved, the pay raises for current sergeants and lieutenants will take effect the first of November.
Pay raises for other police classifications will be under review next year.
