A Peachtree City postal carrier is charged with theft after a fire broke out in his car and investigators discovered gift cards hidden under a seat, police said Monday.

John Breedlove, 42, of Sharpsburg, was arrested Thursday and charged with eight counts of theft by taking, said Lt. Mark Brown with Peachtree City police.

Brown said Breedlove's personal vehicle caught fire Aug. 8 while parked in the Peachtree City Post Office parking lot.

Investigators determined a cigarette started the fire, but located envelopes containing eight $10 Kohl's Department Store gift cards under a seat. The envelopes were addressed to residents on Breedlove's route.

Breedlove also faces a charge of not having prescription medication in an original container. All charges are misdemeanors.
