A Delta Air Lines pilot shut down a plane's engine Tuesday night after a report of a possible fire at the back of an engine.
A ground crew member spotted the problem while Flight 2242 was at the gate at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Gina Laughlin, Delta spokeswoman, told the AJC. A maintenance crew will inspect the plane, she said.
The passengers aboard the plane, bound for Newark, N.J., deplaned and another plane was located, Laughlin said.
"We're not sure how long our maintenance team will need," Laughlin said.
The flight was originally scheduled to leave Atlanta at 5:45 p.m., but took off at 10:52 p.m., according the Delta Air Lines website.
Four days ago, a Delta flight landing in Atlanta caught fire when the plane's brakes overheated. Four passengers sustained minor injuries in the Saturday afternoon incident.
