Roswell police arrested a woman who allegedly was driving drunk and going 90 mph on Ga. 400 – with a 17-month-old toddler in the back seat of her car, Channel 2 Action News reports.
According to a police report, a patrol officer with a radar gun had stationed himself at Ga. 400 at Holcomb Bridge Road about 3 a.m. Dec. 16. He clocked a northbound Toyota Tundra with a Mississippi license plate going about 90 mph in a 65 mph zone
When the officer pulled the driver over and had the woman exit the car, he said in the report that he smelled “a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage about her breath and person.”
The driver, Angela Renee Bell, allegedly told the officer she had had two 16-ounce beers about three hours earlier. The 38-year-old Flowood, Miss. woman failed a field sobriety test and blew a 0.164 on a Breathalyzer test – twice the legal limit in Georgia for driving after drinking, police said.
In the back seat of the car, police said, was a 17-month-old boy who was believed to be Bell’s son, Channel 2 reported. A male adult passenger also was in the car.
"She's putting other people's lives at risk by speeding, and going down Georgia 400 -- not only that, but her own family member, her own child who's in the backseat of the car,” Roswell police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Holland told Channel 2.
Police charged Bell with driving under the influence, speeding and child endangerment. They impounded her car and turned her child over to her passenger. The two took a taxi from the scene.
Bell was taken to the Roswell Detention Center. She subsequently posted bond and was released, Channel 2 reported.
