Authorities released a sketch Friday night of a would-be criminal who entered a Virginia Highland home and was pushed out of the way by a 12-year-old girl.

The girl encountered the man after leaving the front door of the home open Thursday morning when she ran inside to retrieve something she had forgotten earlier when she rode her bike to school, police said.

She told him to leave, but he instead told her to go upstairs and moved toward her, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said late Thursday.

“At that point the juvenile screamed, pushed the male out of the way and ran from the home,” Chafee said in an emailed statement. “The male then exited the home, got into a gold sedan and drove from the location.”

The male is described as more than 6 feet tall with a large build. He is possibly in his 30s, clean-shaven and has blond/auburn hair that is a little longer than a crew cut. He was wearing blue jeans and a navy blue jacket.

The vehicle he fled in is described as a small, boxy gold car, possibly similar to a Toyota Prius, authorities said.

Police are asking residents to be on alert for anyone acting suspiciously. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Atlanta Police Special Victims Unit at 404-546-4260 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
