Atlanta police are investigating a shooting Wednesday at a Buckhead apartment complex.

A 31-year-old man was shot in the leg around 11 a.m. at the Darlington Apartments in the 2000 block of Peachtree Street, police said.

The victim told authorities that he had come to the complex to sell a firearm and was approached by an unknown armed man while waiting for the buyer to arrive, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

The suspect shot the victim, who then dropped his bag containing two handguns while trying to run away, Chafee said. The victim was taken in stable condition to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Officers checked the area but did not locate the shooting suspect, Chafee said.

Police questioned a man on the scene who fit the victim's description of a person he was meeting, and the man was arrested for outstanding warrants, Atlanta Police Maj. Van Hobbs said. It is unclear what charges he faces.

The investigation is continuing.
