The three suspects were traveling the neighborhood in a black Lincoln MKZ and black Chevrolet Equinox, according to police reports. Police confronted the suspects in the Chevrolet Equinox at the subdivision’s entrance, and afterwards, a car chase ensued along Cogburn Road toward Windward Parkway.
Police said the three suspects in the stolen vehicle crashed into a curb and onto a sidewalk as they sped away. The stolen vehicle then crashed onto a median, finally stopping on the north side of the intersection.
The three suspects then fled the stolen vehicle. Milton police officers later spotted Simmons and Morris -- barefoot and covered in mud and grass -- walking in the parking lot of Del Taco on Alpharetta Highway around 4:39 a.m., initial police reports said.
Both Simmons and Morris were transported to Fulton County Jail where they were charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling, and misdemeanor willful obstruction of law enforcement. Simmons is being held on an $8,000 bond. Morris was released on an $8,000 bond on Sept. 18.
Through suspect interviews, authorities said they discovered the Chevrolet Equinox was originally reported stolen by the Atlanta Police Department on Sept. 4.
The Lincoln MKZ was last seen traveling north on Ga. 9 toward Forsyth County and police said that vehicle was likely stolen the same night in Milton.
