1 person killed, 5 others injured in south Fulton crash
A motorcyclist was killed and five other people were injured in a multi-vehicle wreck in south Fulton County on Wednesday night.
The crash involved two motorcycles, a car and a Penske truck on Old National Highway at Bethsaida Road around 9:30 p.m., said Cpl. Kay Lester, spokeswoman for the Fulton County Police Department.
The two motorcycles were stopped at the traffic light facing northbound at the intersection when a Penske truck slammed into the rear of both of them, she said. While one motorcyclist was thrown to the ground, the other was dragged underneath the truck.
The truck then hit a vehicle traveling through the intersection before leaving the roadway and hitting a MARTA bus stop, Lester said.
The motorcyclist who was dragged, 38-year-old Ben Herlinger, of Atlanta, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. The other motorcyclist and the four adults in the vehicle were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck, 31-year-old Alunser Adams, of College Park, was not injured. He was not taken into custody but was charged with homicide by vehicle and obedience to traffic control device, Lester said. A court date was set for November.
