A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Cobb County on Monday.

Angie C. Scroggins, 79, of Smyrna was hit when she entered into the path of a moving vehicle, Cobb police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, Danielle D. Simmons of Atlanta was following another truck on Cumberland Parkway, east of Cobb Drive, when the truck stopped suddenly to avoid hitting a pedestrian. Simmons, who did not see Scroggins, slowed and changed lanes to avoid hitting the truck. Scroggins walked into the path of Simmons’ Dodge Charger and was struck. She was not using a designated pedestrian crosswalk, authorities said.

Scroggins was transported to Emory Adventist Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Simmons is not expected to be charged in the incident, according to police.
