During his annual state of the city address Friday, Peachtree Corners Mayor Mike Mason suggested what the city would have looked like had it not incorporated four years ago.

“You would have been looking at 267 garden apartments where the new Town Center will be built,” he said.

The 20-plus acres across from The Forum shopping center is slated for a mixed-use development with retail shops, restaurants, townhomes and a two-acre Town Green.

“And thanks to Gwinnett and the city, we have Simpsonwood Park,” added the mayor. The 227-acre tract of land, once the site of the Simpsonwood Retreat and Conference Center, was being marketed to residential developers for construction of 200 homes, had the county not stepped in to purchase the property along the Chattahoochee River for a passive park.

Mason outlined priorities for the city will include more walkable areas connecting housing to work, shops, restaurants and activities, a multi-use trail system, millennial and empty nester style housing, the Town Center including the Town Green gathering space. The city has plans for more economic development projects to attract businesses, residents and consumers along with ongoing transportation improvements.
