The Peachtree Corners City Council voted recently to approve a special use permit that will accommodate the expansion of Aztec Stone Empire at 5055 and 5039 Buford Highway. The permit allows building material sales and outdoor storage of masonry construction supplies and materials on 2.29 acres.

The approval was granted with conditions requiring a 25-foot undisturbed buffer along the northern and western side and rear property lines, additional landscaping along Buford Highway, and removal of gravel and an inactive telephone pole from along the front of the expansion site property. Aztec Stone Empire will also be required to extend the decorative fence across the expansion frontage, remove all debris within 90 days and make all other improvements within 240 days of the zoning approval. No oversized signs or additional monument signage are permitted.

Finally, no inventory can be stored on-site until a five-foot wide sidewalk is provided along the entire Buford Highway frontage. However, the zoning notes evidence of payment into the Gwinnett County sidewalk fund for the existing stone yard site will exempt the sidewalk requirement along the existing stone yard frontage.
