A Peachtree City woman was arrested Thursday on a bigamy charge and faces up to 10 years if convicted.
Lucy Caudill, 39, was taken into custody on one count of felony bigamy and one count of second-degree forgery. Police said "a concerned citizen" reported Caudill to authorities.
Police said an investigation revealed Caudill has been married to her first husband for about 15 years. She met her second husband last October at the Tavern on 74 Sports Bar and last month she applied for a marriage license in Fayette County under the name Lucy Caudle Bailey, police said.
She allegedly married her second husband on April 26, a day after receiving the license, on which she listed her age as 29.
According to Georgia law, a married person commits bigamy when she or he, knowing that a lawful spouse is living, marries another person or carries on a bigamous cohabitation with another person.
The only defense the law mentions is that a spouse has been continually absent for seven years and that his or her spouse did not know the missing spouse to be alive.
A person convicted of bigamy can face imprisonment of no less than a year or no more than 10 years. Caudill could face additional time if convicted on the forgery charge.
