After a year of doing feasibility studies and weighing the pros and cons of establishing a municipal broadband service, Peachtree City has chosen to contract with an existing vendor instead.

The City Council voted 5-0 Thursday to authorize a memorandum of understanding with NuLink regarding lease agreements for fiber and Internet services.

City Manager Jon Rorie said the annual cost of a municipal service would have been $437,000 compared to $92,520 with NuLink. The high-capacity service will focus on government and commercial clients, but might include residential customers in the future.
