Diehard Monopoly players from around the country will be in Peachtree City Saturday for the 7th annual Monopoly Tournament.

The tournament will be at Due South restaurant in The Avenue shopping center complex, 302 Clover Reach in Peachtree City. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the first roll starting at 9:45 a.m. There will be two qualifying rounds followed by the quarter finals which will have 64 players. Sixteen players will face-off in the semi-finals and the championship match will pit the day’s four best players against each other. Each round lasts 75 minutes.

There is no entry fee but there will cash and prizes totaling more than $1,600. So far, 82 players are signed up with room for 38 more, said Eric Imker, event organizer. Players are coming in from New York, Michigan and Indiana as well as 19 cities in Georgia, he said.

Imker, a Peachtree City councilman, said he got the idea for the boardgame tournament after playing in one in Dayton, Ohio about 20 years ago. Tournaments are played all over the country and the Peachtree City tournament is believed to be the largest in the southeast, Imker said.

Last year’s tournament drew about 100 contestants. Although walk-ins are welcome, registration is urged. To register: send an email: ptcmonopoly@yahoo.com or drop in. Walk-ins are welcome if there’s room, Imker said.
