The Woodstock City Council is moving to approve a pay raise for its members and the mayor – but it won’t take effect until Jan. 1, 2018, after the terms of the present officers end.

The Council approved on first reading an ordinance amending the city charter to increase compensation by $200, to $1,200 a month for the mayor, and to $950 a month for each Council member. A public hearing and second and final reading of the measure is scheduled for the Nov. 14 Council meeting.

The ordinance also amends the charter to say, “The Mayor and Council Members shall be entitled to receive their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties of office.”

The amendment does not take effect until after the taking of office of the mayor and Council members elected at the next regularly scheduled municipal election, the ordinance says.
