Cobb County officials expect to reopen a washed-out major road by mid-day.

Part of Riverside Parkway in Cobb remains closed after a car crashed into a fire hydrant Monday night, police said.

The road is closed from South Services to the Bluffs, Cobb police spokesman Officer Michael Bowman said.

No one was injured when the car crashed into the hydrant, he said, but the collision caused the main water line to break. Crews could not turn off the water until the car was removed by a wrecker.

The roadway was washed away due to the water and pressure from the main line, Bowman said.
