A coalition of supporters for Isaac Farris Jr., former head of the Southern Christian Leadership Council, held a rally and prayer vigil Monday in hopes of reinstating him to the helm of the civil rights organization.

Farris spoke Monday for the first time about his ouster in April, and he said the board micromanaged his decisions.

He also said the board had the locks changed, denying him access to the headquarters of the organization co-founded by his uncle Martin Luther King Jr.

Farris said that although he would like his job back, Monday's events were about making fundamental changes in the operation and management of the SCLC.

He said he did not have a part in organizing the rally but came to support the work of the coalition.
