There may not be an election to replace former Forsyth County District 2 commissioner Rick Swope after all.

South Forsyth resident Dennis Brown was the only candidate to qualify in the special election to choose a successor to Swope during the qualifying period that wrapped up Sept. 1.

Brown is a South Forsyth resident and conservative activist. He served with the U.S. Army in a number of capacities and is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. He ran against former commissionrt Brian Tam for the District 2 position in 2012. Currently he works for Taurean, a veteran-owned cyber defense firm headquartered in Texas, and teaches on the subjects of terrorism and homeland security at Kennesaw State University.

Swope stepped down from his commission seat Aug. 15 after taking a new job with E-Trade that put strict limits on his ability to hold elective office.
