The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its April 16 regular meeting to approve a mixed-use zoning for 103 acres on the northeast corner of North Ola Road and Hwy. 81.

The 11 acres closest to the corner will likely become a retail center with a major grocery store, and other retail outparcels are expected along the highway. A residential subdivision will wrap around behind the retail center. A number of citizens came out to the meeting and spoke in opposition to the plan, but officials noted that it is consistent with the county’s future land use map and the developer’s representative had already filed a constitutional rights letter as well as an affidavit on the economic significance of the property.

The vote to approve the rezoning was unanimous.
