The University of Georgia senior who survived a crash that killed four classmates remains in critical condition and is surrounded by family and friends, the Oconee County Sheriff said.
Sheriff Scott Berry visited Agnes Kim’s family Monday evening at Athens Regional Medical Center, where she has remained since the Wednesday night wreck.
"I continue to pray for her recovery and those who love her, as I am sure you do as well," Berry posted on his department's Facebook page.
Kim, 21, was driving a Toyota Camry northbound on Ga. 15 when she crossed the center line and drove into the path of Chevrolet Cobalt, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Three passengers in the Toyota died at the scene of the wreck and the fourth died at the hospital.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Abby Short, was injured, but was treated and released from the hospital the following morning. Short, who works as an EMT, is recovering at home, Berry said Tuesday.
A former resident assistant, Kim has been involved with the Young Life ministry and Capital City Church since her freshman year. The marketing major was scheduled to graduate later this month.
Classmates created a online fundraiser for Kim on the YouCaring.com website to assist her family with medical costs. More than $15,000 had been raised by late Tuesday morning.
“Right now, we may not have any control over her healing and recovery, but one thing we can do is help lighten the burden of hospital bills that are sure to come,” the YouCaring page states.
Kim is a graduate of Brookwood High School in Snellville.
