Decatur’s commission established a project budget of $2,050,000 for streetscapes improvements to the Oakhurst business district, initially planned back in 2007.
Deputy city manager Hugh Saxon describes the work as a “complete reconstruction” of the area, including new sidewalks, street lights, street trees, street furniture and a slight expansion of Harmony Park. The area was originally reconfigured — including the creation of Harmony Park — in 1981, one of Saxon’s first projects for the city. Work should start right after Thanksgiving and take one year.
