The Cobb County Board of Education voted 4-2-1 last week to expand the new theater for North Cobb High School from 750 seats to 1100 for an extra cost of $3 million.

Opposed were David Banks and Susan Thayer, saying they thought the theater expansion should be centrally located.

Approving were Chairman Randy Scamihorn, David Morgan, David Chastain and Brad Wheeler.

Scott Sweeney was absent.

Scamihorn proposed the theater expansion to serve the communities of Acworth and Kennesaw, as well as all of Cobb, and the projected increasing population of North Cobb High.

Croft and Associates of Kennesaw was approved 6-0-1 as the architect for $882,856.

Construction is expected to begin in May with completion by the end of 2017 with a nearly $20.7 million budget.
