Norcross hold a swearing-in ceremony and reception for Mayor-Elect Craig Newton and Council Members-Elect Dan Watch and Chuck Paul at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center, 10 College St. To accommodate the special ceremony, the next city council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 3 in the council chambers of City Hall, 65 Lawrenceville St. Both events are open to the public.

Norcross city council members are elected at-large and serve two-year terms, which are staggered. Newton, a longtime city council member, will make history as the city’s first African-American mayor. Council members Dan Watch and Chuck Paul replace Newton’s vacated and expiring seat and the expired term of Pierre Levy respectively.
