Norcross will host the grand opening of the Discovery Garden Park at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 on the grounds of the Norcross Welcome Center, 189 Lawrenceville St. The event includes a ribbon cutting, followed by guest speaker, Walter Reeves, local TV and radio garden guru, at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Food trucks and live music will be available from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children are invited to wear a costume, fairy wings, or come as they are for activities including dancing with a flute-playing fairy, storytelling, crafts, mapping out a nature trail scouting for fairy and gnome houses and more.

Discovery Garden Park will serve as a nature center, community garden and neighborhood gathering place. When completely finished, the DGP will feature an outdoor classroom pavilion, a grilling station, native plant collections, a pollinator garden, a children’s garden and an organic community garden. The community garden will offer citizens the opportunity to grow their own fruits, vegetables and flowers.
