Norcross City Manager Rudolph Smith began a search and interview process for a new police chief in early June. And on Tuesday, the city appointed Norcross Police Department Captain Bill Grogan to the leadership position.

Having served as the interim chief since February, Grogan is responsible for the overall operations of the police department and sets the short-term and long-term goals and objectives, as well as planning for future needs of the department.

Prior to being appointed interim chief of police, Grogan served as captain of support services. In this role, Grogan managed the Norcross Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Professional Standards Unit, Property/Evidence/Crime Scene, Crime Suppression Team, Communications, Records, Community Outreach and Code Enforcement. Grogan also managed technology-related components including the police department’s records management system, crime analysis and GPS.
