In order to brighten the day of valuable area residents, Neighbor Love plans to spread the love to seniors in four nursing homes in Atlanta by hosting Valentine’s Day parties.

“Too many nursing home residents of all ages have no friends or family outside the home to give them any attention any more,” said Tom Sargeant, executive director. “It can be a very lonely existence and elderly residents deserve honor and respect by everyone. So much can be learned from having a relationship with someone that is farther down the path than yourself.”

Neighbor Love will serve residents desserts and drinks at a party, as well as distribute gift bags to those in attendance. They will also distribute Valentine cards and gifts to the residents who cannot attend the party.

The parties will take place Feb. 11 to 19 in Snellville, Austell, Atlanta, Kennesaw and Roswell. The organization is looking for volunteers to help assemble and distribute the bags. The goal is to bless a total of 700 seniors with gift bags this Valentine’s Day.

Outside of this event, the community can also get involved with similar events held on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas.

“Our events do not take a lot of time, but they make a huge impact on the lives of the nursing home residents,” added Sargeant. “You never know when the little amount of kindness that is shown to these residents by Neighbor Love could give them just enough hope and inspiration to extend their days longer.”

In 2016, Neighbor Love provided over 3,400 gifts to nursing home residents in metro Atlanta and central Illinois. It is the service project ministry of E CUBED International, a nonprofit that encourages people to enrich their physical and spiritual lives and empower them to do the same for someone else. It currently serves nursing home residents in Georgia and Illinois, as well as orphans in Uganda.
