A new park for northeast Forsyth County debuted recently as officials held a ribbon-cutting for the 109-acre Lanierland Park.

Phase one of the new acreage at 6115 Jot-Em-Down Road includes four rectangular synthetic surface fields, four picnic pavilions, a playground and restroom and concession facilities. Future plans for the park include a recreation center, but no timeline has been laid out for construction.

The $9.2 million facility was constructed by Reeves Young. Money came from the 2008 park and green space bond approved by county residents. The facility’s on the site of the old Lanierland Music Park which shuttered in 2006, hence the name.
