Beginning Oct. 6, drivers on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett will gain access to an additional general purpose lane between I-985 and Hamilton Mill Road in Buford.
“We understand motorists who travel through this region have been anticipating the opening of the express lanes and the general purpose lanes will improve their drive along I-85,” said Andrew Hoenig, P.E., I-85 Express Lanes Extension Project Manager.
Work continues on the I-85 Express Lanes Extension project including tolling integration testing conducted by the State Road and Tollway Authority. Test vehicles will enter and exit the express lanes at various times and locations during testing. Drivers are advised that the Express Lanes Extension is still under construction and will remain closed to traffic during this time.
The I-85 Express Lanes Extension project involves the addition of 10 miles of newly constructed express lanes north of the existing I-85 Express Lanes. Once complete, the extension will stretch along I-85 from Old Peachtree Road to Hamilton Mill Road adding to the Georgia Express Lanes network.
