A newly-widened section of Ga. 400 northbound in Forsyth County is now open to traffic.

The nearly mile-long stretch of new left-hand lane opened between Keith Bridge and Browns Bridge roads. State engineers said it marks a substantial milestone in the $56 million project but caution that the full section including a bridge over Lake Lanier won’t be done until the end of July. They say until then motorists should consider the new stretch as a long left turn lane for accessing Ga. 369.

It’s part of the bigger project to add an additional lane on both sides of Ga. 400 from McFarland Road to Ga. 369. The project awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. in April of 2015 is 50 percent complete. Work on adding the additional lane southbound began in May.
